Kimberly
Gates-Huntsberry
August 10, 1965 – March 5, 2026
Kimberly Yvonne Gates Huntsberry, lovingly known as “Kim,” was born on August 10, 1965, in Galveston, Texas, to the late Mildred Arline Baskin and Edward Lee Gates. As the oldest of three children, Kim naturally carried a nurturing and caring spirit. From an early age, she was known for her kind heart, adventurous personality, and bold, outspoken nature. Kim had a vibrant presence and a sense of humor that could light up any room. A natural-born comedian, she loved making others laugh and always kept those around her smiling.
Growing up, Kim enjoyed roller skating, playing hardball, and dancing. She was even part of a dance team and proudly held the title of Queen of Double Dutch. Her lively spirit and fearless personality made her stand out wherever she went.
Throughout her adulthood, Kim pursued her passion for helping others by earning a nursing degree from Lee College and Associates at Long Beach City College in California. She dedicated herself to caring for others, reflecting the same compassion and warmth she showed to her family and friends.
Kim met the love of her life, Eddie Huntsberry, in 2002, and the two quickly built a strong and loving bond. After years of sharing life together, they were united in marriage on February 12, 2012. Their relationship was filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support as they blended their families and created a home centered around love and togetherness with seven children building a home filled with laughter, love, and unforgettable memories.
Kim was a devoted wife, loving mother, proud grandmother and great-grandmother (GG), and cherished aunt. Family meant everything to her. She truly embodied the definition of a family woman, always putting the needs of others before her own.
One of Kim’s greatest joys was cooking. Her kitchen was a place of warmth, love, and gathering. She had a special gift for bringing people together over food. Whether it was family, friends, or someone simply in need, Kim’s door was always open. She would throw something together in the kitchen and invite people from all around. Anyone who knew Kim knew that if you wanted a good pot of gumbo, she was the one to call. Her Southern hospitality, generous heart, and nurturing spirit touched countless lives.
Kimberly was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Mildred Arline Baskin and Edward Lee Gates, along with many other loved ones who welcomed her home.
She leaves behind to cherish her beautiful memories her devoted husband of 24 years, Eddie Huntsberry; her two brothers, Cody Gates (Andreall Gates) and William Robertson Jr.; and her beloved children, Drawnieka Smith (Jeremy Smith), Elbert Haskins III, Le’Quisha Bolden (Gerard Bolden), and Le’Quinton Haskins.
Kim also leaves behind her two favorite aunties, Daisetta Livingston and Doris Jean, along with 13 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to her life.
She will also be lovingly remembered by a host of nieces and nephews (too many to name because she was “Aunt Kim” to everyone), cousins, extended family, and countless friends whose lives she touched with her love, laughter, and generosity.
Though Kim may no longer walk among us, her spirit, love, and legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered for her warm smile, open heart, delicious cooking, and the powerful impact she made on everyone she encountered.
