In Houston, Texas on November 5, 1955 Archie and Gertie Lee Pinkney gave birth to their fourth child. Walter spent his early life in the cities of Houston, Morgan's Point and LaPorte, Texas. Walter was affectionately known as 'Pank' by his friends.
Walter confessed his calling into the gospel at the early age of seventeen and preached his first sermon at his father's church, Zion Hill Baptist in LaPorte, Texas. Throughout his fifty-two years of ministry, he served as a Pastor of churches located in Brindisi, Italy, La Porte, TX, Baytown, TX and Texas City, TX. Walter attended Houston Baptist University, Texas Southern University, and Inter-Baptist Theological Center, all in Houston, TX. He received a Degree in Theology while attending Inter-Baptist.
Walter joined the U.S. Air Force in 1980, where he served at duty stations in Las Vegas, NV (Nellis AFB) and Brindisi, Italy (SanVito AS), and was honorably discharged in 1984. During his service as an Administrative Specialist, he was awarded the Air Force Training Ribbon, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, and the Air Force Overseas Long Tour Service Ribbon.
On April 29, 1995 Walter, in holy matrimony, united with Deborah Denise Frier, Unto this union two children were born:
Tsunami Magnolia Letisha and Walter Calvin Bobby Jr. Walter was a Veterans' advocate and helped many veterans worldwide to receive their just due for service-connected disability payments. He served as a Gospel radio announcer at KWW] 1360 AM in Baytown, Texas. Walter was completing fight hours for his Commercial Pilot's license. Some of his favorite activities included being with his family, watching him, and spending time on the water.
Walter first experienced issues with his heart in 1983. After hearing the Lord ask what he would do if he were to live yet another day, Walter declared unto Him that "he would spend it preaching". God told him, "All right, son. Preach." On the morning of Sunday, July 16, 2023, Walter received a new heart. And less than twenty-four hours later, he received a new kidney. Doctors said that Walter was a hero because he was and still is the first multi-organ transplant recipient in the entire Veterans' Administration System. Walter knew it was all God who allowed him another chance at life in his "one day to live for Him". Throughout his hospitalizations. God saw fit that he could minister to certain employees in the hospital who came to him and asked for help: He saw God work miracles of healing in their bodies.
The Transfer
On the morning of July 20, 2024, God saw fit to take His servant Walter Calvin Pinkney home. This was the final transplant; the transplant that guaranteed no more suffering and no more death. His one day was completed. His mansion was finally ready.
The Legacy
Walter wrote several books entitled What It Is Like to Be a god, Storefront or Stadium: Biblical Principles of Church Growth Worth Considering, and Delay, Deny. Hope They Die: Make the VA Pay.
He also started his own ministry, holding services at San Jacinto College in Pasadena, TX. He taught Biblical Principles of Church Growth in the Baptist Ministers' Association of Houston and Vicinity, Starting in 2019, he went virtual with his ministry and broadcast worldwide under the name The Gospel Message Proclaimed. To this day. Walter's recordings can still be found on his YouTube channel, Facebook, Spotify and Apple Podcast under The Gospel Message Proclaimed.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents Archie Bejay Pinkney, Gertie Lee Talbert Pinkney, and his sister Dora Lee Pinkney.
He leaves behind his wife of twenty-nine years Deborah Frier Pinkney, son Walter Pinkney. Jr. and daughter Tsunami Pinkney, all of Kemah, Texas; sister Deborah Turner of Baytown, Texas; brothers Rev. Archie Pinkney of Seattle, Washington, Rev. Albert Pinkney of Houston, Texas, and Isaac Pinkney of Dallas, Texas; brother-in-laws Leon Frier, Jr. (Phylis), Robert Frier, Sr. (Vanessa): sister-in-laws Vera Bowers (Nalen), Annie Marie Williams (Obie. Jr.), and Linda Frier Washington; nieces Tisheva, Krista, Jessica, Rosalind, Rhonda, Sandra Ann: nephews Ricky, Christopher.
Byron, David, Verlon, Russell, Landy, Robert Jr., Alvin, and Eugene; a host of both great and great-great nieces & nephews, many cousins, his extended U.S. Air Force family and a host of ministers, relatives and friends.
