The Life and Legacy of Frank Joseph Landry

Pastor Frank Joseph Landry, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, went to be with our Lord on October 18, 2025. He was a remarkable figure in the community of Old River-Winfree, Texas, and has dedicated his life to service, both spiritually and civically. Born in Houston, Texas, he is the son of the late Clarence and Ophelia Landry. Raised in the Tri City Beach/Cedar Bayou area, Landry's roots run deep in Louisiana, with his father hailing from Church Point and his mother from Elton. He is proceeded in death by his parents, his older brother Clarence Landry Jr, baby sister Louise Norman, and baby brother Alfred Peter Landry, and one grandson DaQuan Landry.

After spending over 20 years in Baytown, Texas, Landry has made Old River Winfree his home. He graduated from George Washington Carver High School in 1964, where he was an active participant in the choir and band, as well as a dedicated athlete playing football and baseball. His educational journey) continued at Conroe Industrial College, where he earned a bachelor's degree in theology in 1987.

His professional career began at Gulf Oil/Chevron Chemical Company, where he worked for thirty years, ultimately serving as a maintenance supervisor overseeing painters, carpenters, and insulators. He retired in 2000, but his commitment to his community was just beginning.

In 1993, he became the pastor of Little Rock Missionary Baptist Church, where he has been a guiding force for his congregation. His leadership extends beyond the church; he has also served as the mayor of Old River-Winfree for over 32 years, demonstrating his dedication to public service. To add to his dedication ol public service, he was also a volunteer Chaplin for the Houston Methodist Hospital Baytown for fourteen years.

A veteran of the United States Army, Landry was honorably discharged in 1968. His service during the Vietnam War earned him numerous honors, including the Purple Heart, National Defense Medal, and recognition as a Golden Glove Champion. His athletic prowess also shone through in military boxing, where he claimed titles such as the 1st Army Division Bantamweight Champion.

His commitment to community service is further exemplified in his role as Worshipful Master of the Gibraltar Lodge 406, where he has served for 31 years and continues to be a respected past master. His early years included participation in the Boy Scouts in Baytown, where he earned a merit badge, showcasing his dedication to personal growth and leadership

An avid trail rider and rodeo enthusiast, Landry joined the Texas Rodeo Cowboy Association at the age of 19, enjoying a successful career until 1976. His passion for the rodeo scene continued, as he was inducted into the National Black Cowboys Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on February 1, 2025, coinciding with his 80th birthday.

Pastor Frank Joseph Landry's life is a tapestry of service, faith, and family. His journey reflected a commitment to making a difference in the lives of others, a legacy that will undoubtedly inspire future generations.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 54 years Mae Helen Jones Landry, 3) daughters: Stephanie Allen (Roynald), Demetria Durst (Rodney), Tabitha Lewis and (3) sons Patrick Landry, Tony Landrj (Rosalva), and Lance Landry-along with their numerous grandchildren: Christopher (Ashley), Raven, Raysean, Daieshanda, Jasmyn, Ja'den, Tony Jr., Jacob, Dequincy, Courtney, Roynald Jr. (Taylor), DeVon Jennifer), and Alexis. Great-grandchildren: Brayden, Tori, Addison, Maddox, Maci, Maverick, Kameron, Nova, Legynd, Leahna, A'Leah, Dalia, and Kalyn are a testament to a life filled with love and dedication.

He also leaves to cherish is memories his brother Nolen Landry Sr. (Kathy), 2 sisters, Wilderine Smith (Harold Lee "Smitty"), Georgianna Broussard, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Frank Joseph Landry will be deeply missed but cherished in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
